Village of Mount Prospect

The Mount Prospect Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Community Service Officer.  Qualified individuals wishing to apply for the position are required to complete an online  job application.

Job Description:

Community Service Officers are uniformed, unarmed, civilian employees who assist Police Patrol Officers in support functions including:

  • Perform police desk duties by providing assistance with greeting the public and processing inquiries and complaints; answer the phone and direct calls as appropriate.
  • Participate in the enforcement of a variety of local ordinances.
  • Assist in handling a variety of situations affecting public safety including providing assistance at traffic accidents and in clearing traffic hazards and hazards related to utility work.
  • Provide support and assistance to police officers at accident, fire and crime scenes.
  • Handle non-criminal complaints as assigned; prepare appropriate reports and paperwork; maintain activity logs as necessary; handle walk-in complaints and associated reports about minor incidents.
  • Assist in patrolling specified areas such as parking lots, time-zoned areas and parking meter zones; observe parking violations and issue citations to violators.
  • Monitor detainees in the holding facility according to departmental policy.
  • Monitor various alarm systems at the police information desk.
  • Assist the department with community relations activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Applicants for the position must:

Successfully complete a physical examination, drug test, and a stringent background investigation,

  • One year of experience working in a public safety environment (preferred)
  • Be at least 18 years of age,
  • Have never been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor,
  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent,
  • Fluency in English language skills,
  • Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Starting salary is $60,660 – $72,792 annually, depending on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $60,660 – $84,924.  A complete job description is available by clicking here.
