Salary: $62,500.00 Annually
Hours: Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., overtime and on-call as needed, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic within the DuPage County Division of Transportation. DuPage County is an authorized training provider for Entry-Level CDL Drivers and are willing to train Heavy Equipment Mechanic employees to help obtain a CDL to meet the after hire requirement of the position.
This position is included in the Bargaining Unit of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150.

Responsibilities include:
- Diagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul a wide variety of Diesel, Automotive, and Heavy equipment
- Repair and maintain light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks, snow and ice removal equipment, tractors, street sweepers, trailers, and other heavy construction equipment
- Diagnose, repair and overhaul diesel and gasoline engines, Air-brake systems, hydraulic systems, steering and suspension, electrical, and HVAC systems
- Diagnoses mechanical defects through performance of road tests on vehicles to locate operational problems and review of repair and maintenance work before returning equipment to service
- Operates diagnostic equipment for the detection of electrical system problems and defects
- Responds to emergency calls for repair of county vehicles and equipment
- Prepares service records of preventive maintenance, repair, and other activities as required
- Maintains current knowledge relative to vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair
- Performs welding and fabrication tasks
- Performs preventative maintenance tasks
- Maintains a clean and safe workshop
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:
• Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) equivalent
• Two (2) years of experience in repairing trucks and heavy equipment or equivalent combination of experience and education
• Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois Driver’s License
• Must be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL with an air brakes endorsement within six (6) months of employment
This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements of the United States Department of Transportation – Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
