Cook County Offices Under The President

Job Summary
Coordinates and supervises all building, elevator and HVAC inspectors and ensures all staff comply with local, state,
and federal codes, regulations, and ordinances. Serves as consultant to contractors and the public to ensure
construction plans and materials meet the professional standards, requirements, and guidelines. Act as a liaison to
and collaborate with senior management to oversee and enhance the organization, operation, and performance of
the department.

Minimum Qualifications
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher and
• Five (5) years of building construction and inspection with code compliance or directly related experience.
• Three (3) years of prior supervisory experience or
• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Valid driver’s license
• Possession of current International Code Council (ICC) Certifications including ICC Residential and Commercial
Inspector Certifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to manage professional and/or skilled support staff on a day-to-day basis.
• Ability to lead within the established objectives and make decisions regarding daily priorities and the
application of technical/business processes for a work group or segment of a department.
• Ability to set overall direction and hold staff accountable for accomplishing work objectives by fostering
positive relationships between employees, leadership, and stakeholders.
• Ability to use organizational and/or department objectives and goals to identify processes by which to meet
those goals.
• Knowledge of the Cook County Building Code and Zoning Ordinance and related ordinances and regulations as
well as the ability to interpret and clearly explain these materials.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and plans, and enforce regulations firmly and impartially.
• Ability to travel to various work sites throughout the County.

Physical Requirements:
Medium Work involves exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently or an
amount greater than negligible and up to 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
