The Community Development department has 8 employees responsible for supporting elected and appointed bodies such as the CDC, SEEC, and Planning Zoning and Building Committee (PZB), and City Council. Staff review building permit applications to ensure compliance with applicable zoning, engineering, and building codes. The department also administers economic development initiatives to support local businesses. A façade-improvement program is available for commercial properties, while TIF districts help promote redevelopment in key areas. Staff often work collaboratively with other departments, such as Public Works, to realize complex development projects. The most qualified candidates will be matriculating college or graduate school students with strong writing, research, and communication skills. Opportunities may be available to present at public hearings, such as the Community Development Commission (CDC), and Streetscape and Economic Enhancement Commission (SEEC), so effective public presentation skills are also strongly desired.
