The City of Naperville’s Police Department seeks an Investigations Specialist to perform a variety of administrative and investigative functions to support the Police Department’s Investigations Division. This full-time, non-union, civilian position will work Monday thru Friday, day shift.

Duties
The Investigations Specialist will conduct follow-up interviews with witnesses and victims; gather and analyze data from various sources (databases, information systems, financial documents, phone records, etc.) to identify and capture relevant information; prepare comprehensive investigative reports; and prepare search warrants, subpoenas and court orders. Additionally, this position will provide administrative support to sworn Police staff with city licensing tasks, administering the online reporting program, and preparing and presenting testimony for court and administrative hearings.

Qualifications
An Associate’s degree and a minimum of three years in a related capacity, or an equivalent combination education and experience is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field is preferred. Additionally, preferred candidates will have previous law enforcement experience. All candidates must possess a valid Illinois Class D driver’s license and will be required to successfully pass a polygraph test as well as a post-offer drug screen.

Top candidates will have knowledge of the principles and practices of police investigations. They will have strong communication skills and will be able to effectively elicit information from interview subjects. This position will attend law enforcement-related seminars and training events and needs to be able to prepare and present new concepts, strategies and procedures to NPD staff and other law enforcement agencies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
