The City of Aurora is currently accepting applications for the position of Superintendent of Parks in the department of Public Facilities.

Under administrative direction of the Chief Public Facilities Officer or designee, the Superintendent of Parks is responsible for ensuring the maintenance and operations of City Parks and other designated facilities in the City of Aurora. organizes, directs and administers a comprehensive maintenance operation of all City of Aurora owned properties.

Duties of this position also include but are not limited to: Responsible for the maintenance of all parks and designated facilities as assigned by the City of Aurora; Responsible for managing the hiring, development, supervision, and training of all staff to ensure expectations are consistently met or exceeded in all facets of the operation; Provide leadership and direction in the development of short- and long- term parks maintenance and development, consistent to the Master Plan of the City; Provides technical assistance to subordinate staff; Conducts periodic inspections of parks and reviews the work of employees for compliance of City standards; Manages snow and ice abatement operation for routes assigned to the Parks and Recreation Division; Manages bids of contractors for projects not done by department staff; Manages the division supplies and equipment inventories, ensuring accountability and proper operation and daily maintenance of equipment assets; Responds to requests and complaints regarding operations and maintenance of Parks and other designated facilities, Supervises and evaluates all Parks Division Personnel; Analyzes and prepares the division annual budget(s), and all special reports, administers the expenditure of general and capital outlay funds as approved by the City Council; Prepares and presents resolutions to the City Council for approval; Directs the Zoo Division activities through the Zoo Manager and subordinate supervisors; Performs other duties as related to the position.

The ideal candidate requires thorough knowledge of principles, practices and objectives of public park administration, particularly active parks with golf courses. This position requires a bachelor’s degree from a four (4) year college or university in Business Management with coursework in Parks Management, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or some other related field. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of management experience related to Parks and Recreation or Leisure management. With three years of management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred. Requires a valid driver’s license. Residency requirement or proximity requirement for response time.

This is a full-time, executive position. Starting salary is $107,536, depending on experience and qualifications.
