The City of Aurora is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of Property Maintenance Compliance Officer I in the Division of Property Standards.

Under the general supervision of the Division of Property Standards Administration, the PMCO I performs inspections of residential and nonresidential property to enforce compliance with the requirements of the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) with amendments and other applicable codes, ordinance, and safety standards relating to existing residential and nonresidential building interiors, exteriors, and grounds.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Enforce provisions of the IPMC and other property maintenance codes and ordinances; Prepare and maintain accurate records and files; Testify in court or hearings as required; Attend meetings involving City of Aurora committees, commissions, and/or neighborhood groups; Perform incidental clerical duties; Other duties as required or assigned.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED, preferably supplemented with coursework in code enforcement, construction, building maintenance, zoning, or similar. Within six months of hire, must pass the International Code Council certification test for Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector. Must Possess a valid Illinois “D” Driver’s License.

Must be able to pass a typing test (25 wpm) and a written exam. Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a drug screen, physical and background check.

This is a full-time, union position. Beginning salary for Property Maintenance Compliance Officer I is $34.38/hour, after 6 months $35.15/hour, after 1 year $35.94/hour, and annual increases thereafter. Excellent benefit packages.
