PURPOSE STATEMENT
To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed by this position.

  • Coordinate scheduling and management of athletic team contest, official practices, and facilities utilization.
  • Develop, manage and evaluate department policies and procedures
  • Hire supervise, and evaluate athletics department personnel, including all coaches
  • Prepare, execute, and monitor department budgets
  • Approve and oversee the purchase and payment of supplies and equipment
  • Manage and lead the athletics eligibility process through record keeping, certification, and awards
  • Responsibility for the coordination of team transportation to offsite competitions and engagements
  • Responsibility for the coordination of athletic training programs
  • Provide leadership for academic student athlete success programs
  • Facilitate tournaments and sports related events and provide necessary information and assistance to visiting teams and fans
  • Coordinate athletic camps, clinics, and sports-related events including intra-murals
  • Create and maintain a team-oriented organizational climate
  • Maximize the building facilities to strike an appropriate balance for use by students, and staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • All aspects of the sports medicine program and of emergency health and injury policies.

Skill in:

  • Enforcing discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, establishing and overseeing penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.

Ability to:

  • Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times when students are present.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree.  Minimum of 5 years of athletic administration experience in a middle school/high school environment. Must have the ability to communicate using good command of oral and written communication skills and work well with students, parents, staff, and community.

CERTIFICATION
Coaches should, whenever possible, be regularly certified to teach in Indiana schools.
