The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Civil Engineer I in the Division of Engineering.
Under direction of the City Engineer or his/her designee, the civil engineer will apply principles of construction and mathematics in developing and/or reviewing engineering project plans and specifications. Duties of the position include but are not limited to: act as a project manager on assigned projects; Prepare engineering plans and specifications as well as cost and quantity estimates for public works projects; Develop construction layout and provide construction supervision of roadway, storm sewer, traffic signals, selected water main and sanitary sewer; Assist in various field studies by maintaining topographic notes and by leading survey crews; Provide quality assurance of public works projects by observing construction operations, performing materials testing, preparing inspection reports and daily diary, maintaining project files; Provide coordination to Water Utilities staff in ongoing engineering maintenance of the water pumping, treatment, and distribution system; Review and issue utility permits for work in the public right-of-way; Respond to problems raised by citizens pertaining to assigned projects; Provide supervision to Engineering Technicians; Other related duties as assigned.
This position will use surveying instruments, tape measures, or other calibrated tools to determine lines, directions, and distances in field assignments; Utilize Auto CAD system and hand draws maps, charts, etc. for drafting.; Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids.
This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a full-time, union position. Starting hourly pay range is $39.36/hour – $44.02/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
