The City of Wood Dale, Illinois, is seeking qualified applicants for the Maintenance Worker I position within the Streets Division.

The Maintenance Worker I position involves semi-skilled maintenance work in a variety of public works, utility, and facility maintenance activities.  Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of maintenance work in the care and upkeep of buildings, streets, parkways, trees, sidewalks, and other facilities.  The Maintenance Worker I is also expected to perform minor repairs and is responsible for the routine maintenance of equipment used.  Initially, work is closely supervised, but as experience is gained, the employee will receive more complex and varied assignments and will perform work independently.  The primary work location of this position is outdoors with some time spent in vehicles and at various City owned facilities.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, experience in maintenance work, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills required of a Maintenance Worker I.  A valid Illinois driver’s license is required.  Please note that successful candidates must acquire a CDL Class B license classification within six (6) months of hire.  This position also requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, knowledge of standard tools and equipment that is used in maintenance work, and basic customer skills.  Basic computer skills are strongly desired.

This position is subject to the City’s policy for drug and alcohol testing.  Also, this position is part of a collective bargaining unit and will be subject to a negotiated labor contract.
