The City of Worthington, Ohio, is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Chief of Police. The Chief of Police plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, fostering positive relationships with the community, and leading the police department with integrity, innovation, and compassion.

Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Strategic Management:
Provide leadership and strategic direction to the police department consistent with the City’s vision and objectives.

Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs to maintain and enhance public safety and community engagement.

Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, ethical behavior, and public service within the division.

Key Programs/Key Issues: Staff Development and Leadership:
Build upon the division’s solid foundation to achieve a model organization known for exceptional service and engagement with highly professional, respectful, and dedicated staff. 
 
Develop and mentor officers at all levels of the division, especially those less experienced in their roles as the result of numerous hirings and promotions over the past few years. 
 
Recruit, train, mentor, and retain a diverse and highly skilled workforce.
Identify and provide professional development opportunities to build skills and knowledge possessed by division staff.

Foster a culture of transparency, trust, and respect.

Be personable, caring, and supportive, and present with a high level of energy, internally and externally.  
 
Community Engagement and Relationship Building:
Build and maintain trust through community engagement.

Respond to community concerns proactively, thoughtfully, and respectfully.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents, businesses, community organizations, and other local governments.

Seek out and engage with diverse communities and implement community policing strategies to address needs and concerns.

Collaborate with community partners to develop and implement crime prevention initiatives.

Operational Excellence:
Oversee day-to-day operations of the police department, including patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, and community outreach.

Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

Utilize data-driven approaches to identify trends, allocate resources, and enhance operational effectiveness.

Keep current on leading strategies and best practices for law enforcement, continually seeking to enhance and build upon our service delivery.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, including at least five years in a supervisory or command role.

Executive leadership training to include FBINA, SMIP, FBI LEEDA, Northwestern School of Police and Command, and/or CLEE desired. Other executive leadership training will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Demonstrated track record of effective leadership, innovation, and collaboration in a law enforcement agency. Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural community.

Valid Ohio driver's license and certification by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) or able to obtain certification within six months of employment.

Worthington offers an excellent benefits package. Salary starts at $140,000. The selected may start at a higher salary dependent upon qualifications.
