JOB SUMMARY

The Village of Bensenville is accepting applications for entry level and lateral police officer candidates to serve a diverse community of 18,538 residents. The Bensenville Police Department recently instituted an Officer Wellness Program and provides incentives to participation to include a monthly massage opportunity.  An onsite workout area provides an easily accessible method to accomplishing workout goals in and around work shifts.  The Bensenville Police station was opened in 2015 and is spacious and can host numerous training events.  Tours of the station are available upon request for candidates when turning in applications.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Entry level applicants must be 21-35 years of age at time of appointment (unless affected by state statute)
Must have High School Diploma or an equivalent high school education.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Possess a minimum of 60 semester college credit hours or an equivalent from a quarter system from an accredited college or university.
College credit exception for applicants who have within 2 years of application have completed a minimum of 3 years of military service (with an honorable discharge) and possess a primary specialty of security, law enforcement, or military police as listed on the Form DD214
Must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R test card.
Must pass existing physical, vision, and hearing requirements.

·         Ability to de-escalate situations and prevent harm from occurring.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Capability and desire to work in a collaborative manner with a wide range of people.

·         Developed analysis skills for researching and investigating.

JOB DUTIES/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Assists in the patrol of the Village of Bensenville concentrating on areas of high activity.

·         Participates in public relations to gain community support.

·         Investigates reported crimes by interviewing witnesses and/or suspects to gain information.

·         Affect arrests for violations of municipal, state, and/or federal law.

·         Collects evidence to enhance the success of prosecution.

·         Prepares reports to memorialize events for further investigation and/or prosecution.

·         Participates and testifies in court hearings when required.

·         Participates in traffic enforcement.

·         Responds and investigates accidents applying first aid as necessary.

·         Monitors and cites traffic violations to uphold roadway safety.

·         Enforces parking laws and ordinances.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical Environment:

stooping, kneeling, standing, reaching, walking, navigating uneven surfaces, lifting and/or moving (up to 50 pounds), grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, and repetitive motions.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
Position performs desk work and computer skills requiring manual dexterity.
Requires the operation of a motorized vehicle.
Work Environment:

Work in an office or emergency peace control environment.
May work in intense life-threatening conditions.
Exposure to dangerous persons, firearms, bodily fluids, and noise.
May be exposed to emergency and disaster situation.
May work in stressful situations.
Willing and able to respond to after-hours call-backs; prepare for and confront emergency conditions to maintain efficient and effective Village services.

SALARY:

Hiring range for this role is $81,165.21 to $113,737.20 annual salary per the MAP 2023-2026 collective bargaining agreement. Salary dependent on qualifications.
